Memorandum of the understanding between the consulate general of Mexico and gateway to care has been extended for one more year and the related financial resources were given to gateway to care
The Consulate General of Mexico in Houston is pleased to announce that the Memorandum of Understanding between the Consulate and Gateway to Care, agency responsible for administering the Ventanilla de Salud in Houston, has been extended for one more year, till June 10th, 2013.
Dr. Luis Malpica y de Lamadrid, Consul General of Mexico presented a check for $45,000.00 (Forty-five thousand U.S. dollars.) to Ronald R. Cookston, Executive Director of Gateway to Care.
The said financial resources are part of the support granted by the Ministry of Health (Secretaría de Salud) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores) of Mexico, through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior) for the operations of the Ventanilla de Salud of the Consular network in the United States.
Consul General thanked the agency representatives of Gateway to Care for the health services offered to the Hispanic community in Houston. He also highlighted the work that is being done at the headquarters of the Consulate, which includes Mini Health Fairs on the second Tuesday and Awareness Days on the fourth Friday of each month, that are organized for the wellbeing of the community. He also welcomed the presence of the mobile unit of The Rose, that will visit the Consulate on March, May, July, August and October, For this and other services, he invited the community to contact the Ventanilla de Salud.
The Ventanilla de Salud is located on the first floor of the Consulate General of Mexico and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm. For more information about the services offered by VDS, call (713) 778-6105 or (713) 778-6116.
